Finningley Airport Demonstration
Following the devastating floods in Yorkshire, that claimed lives and property in 2007, Yorkshire Forward invited John Hutton to a conference to assess businesses response in the region. Treesponsibility asked to be invited, being a climate change action group, focusing on flood mitigation, but we were told that the conference was for businesses, and was not of interest to us.
The fact that the conference was to be held at Finningley Airport struck us as more than a little bizarre, given aviation’s contribution to CO2 emissions and climate change.
We decided to go along anyway and leaflet the delegates. Three of our number were arrested in the conference foyer, and two spent 11 hours at Her majesties pleasure before being released on bail. All charges of aggravated trespass were subsequently dropped – presumably due to no evidence.
The photos are of our demo outside the offices of Finningley Directions – who hosted the conference.
